Before playing in any UltimateBet event, we recommend that you review the poker tournament rules on this page. The time you spend learning our poker tournament rules will improve not only your own online poker play, but ensure that any poker tournaments you participate in will move as smoothly as possible.

Sit and Go Poker Tournament Rules

  1. Unless specified as a play-money tournament, all buy-in fees and entry fee requirements must be met before a player is eligible to enter a single table online poker tournament. This must take place before the start of each event.
  2. Once 9 players have registered and taken their seat, all Texas Holdem and Omaha poker strategy tournaments start automatically. Seven registered and seated players are required to automatically start a Seven Card Stud poker strategy tournament.
  3. The online poker tournament will end once one player has won all the chips. No additional buy-ins are allowed after a player has made their first. Once a player has lost all of their chips, they are automatically eliminated from the online poker strategy tournament.
  4. With each buy-in poker tournament UltimateBet offers, the prize pool will always be the total buy-ins multiplied by the number of players, with the top three finishers receiving approximately 50%, 30%, and 20% respectively.
  5. The entry fee takes the place of the rake.
  6. All players in standard tournaments will start with 1000 tournament chips, unless otherwise noted. Players in No-Limit and Pot-Limit tournaments will start with 1500 tournament chips, unless otherwise noted. Note that tournament chips have no monetary value.
  7. After every 10 games played, the limits, blinds, and bets rise according to the exact schedules.
  8. Each of the first seven levels in Texas Holdem or Omaha will last 10 games. The final (8th) level continues until the winner is declared. Seven Card Stud plays up to 10 levels, unless otherwise noted.
  9. To start each online poker strategy tournament, each player is dealt one card face up and the player with the highest card receives the dealer button for the first hand. A tie in high card is determined by suits based on the following order: spades, hearts, diamonds, and clubs.
  10. During Heads-up (One-on-One) the small blind has the button and acts first before the flop when playing Texas Holdem or Omaha poker tournaments.
  11. There is a maximum of three raises, or a total of four bets per round. When only two players remain, a maximum of five raises or six bets are allowed.
  12. To ensure the big blind is not missed by the next player in order, if the player in the small blind is eliminated, the button will not advance when playing Texas Holdem or Omaha poker tournaments. If a player who is the big blind is eliminated, the button moves and one player receives the benefit of not posting the big blind for that round. All players have an equal opportunity to benefit from this scenario.
  13. No breaks occur in single table tournaments, and an online poker strategy tournament will continue without delay until one player has won all the chips and been announced the online poker tournament winner.
  14. If more than one player is eliminated during the same hand, the player who started the hand with the most chips will be placed higher. If the players started the hand with an equal amount of chips, they will tie for the position. In the situation where two or more players tie for a position, the prizes will be equally distributed amongst them. For example, if two players tie for 2nd place, each player will receive 50% of the 2nd place prize and 50% of the 3rd place prize.
  15. No soft playing should occur. No exceptions.
  16. Play continues until a player has lost all their chips or has been declared the tournament winner.
  17. Tournament players must adhere to the rules outlined in our User Agreement
  18. UltimateBet.com reserves the right to alter the rules and make final decisions on all tournament related issues as they arise, and at our sole discretion.
  19. During game play, players are prohibited from chatting about the play of their and/or their opponents' hands until all actions for that hand are complete. Such chat could result in disqualification or other penalties.
  20. In case of disputes decisions made by UltimateBet.com are final.

Multi-Table Poker Tournament Rules

  1. Please visit the Tournament Lobby for all online poker tournament schedules and start times.
  2. Upon entering a table, you will be randomly assigned to a seat and will not be allowed to change your seat.
  3. If more than one player is eliminated during the same hand, the player who started the hand with the most chips will be placed higher. If the players started the hand with an equal amount of chips, they will tie for the position. In the situation where two or more players tie for a position, the prizes will be equally distributed amongst them. For example, if two players tie for 4th place, each player will receive 50% of the 2nd place prize and 50% of the 3rd place prize.
  4. When two players remain, the button will post the small blind, and act first on the opening round.
  5. Disconnects.

*By participating in an online poker strategy tournament, a player accepts the risk of Internet disconnection due to problems with the connection between their computer and the servers, lag or freeze, or other problems in the player's computer. UltimateBet does not accept any responsibility for a player disconnect except in the case of a server crash.

If a player times out during a hand, whether connected or disconnected, the hand will be folded.

If a player is not connected before a hand starts, he or she will be dealt cards, a blind or an ante will be posted, and then a hand will be folded automatically.
  6. A bet and three raises are permitted in structured limit tournaments. There is no raise cap in pot-limit and no-limit tournaments.
  7. Each player will be allocated a time bank which allows the player extra time to make a decision. The time bank depletes as it is used throughout the online poker tournament. If a player elects to use his or her time bank, other players at the table will be notified.
  8. As players are eliminated from the online poker tournament, the software may balance tables to ensure all tables have an equal number (or as close as possible) of active players. The balancing of tables is done randomly and, although rare, may result in a player having to post several big blinds in a row. When nine players remain in a Texas Holdem or Omaha poker tournament ,or eight players remain in a Seven Card Stud tournament, all players are brought together at the "final table".
  9. Prizes will be awarded as stated in the Tournament Lobby.
  10. In the event of a tournament crash there are two recovery scenarios depending on the number of players registered and remaining in the tournament:
    1. If the number of entries is equal to the number of remaining players (none of the participating players has been knocked out) at the time of the crash, then everyone gets back their buyin and fee.
    2. If the number of entries is not equal to the number of remaining players (at least one player has been knocked out) at the time of the crash, then
      - 50% of the tournament's prize pool is distributed evenly among the players still in the tournament
      - The other 50% is also distributed to the players in the tournament, but the amount paid to each player is based on the size of each player's chip stack.
      For example:
If there are 3 players left in a tourney where Player 1 has $5,000 in chips, Player 2 has $4,000 in chips, and Player 3 has $1,000 in chips:
*In this case, 50% is distributed evenly among the three and of the remaining prize money Player 1 will be paid 50% of the remaining prize pool while Player 2 gets 40% and Player 3 gets 10%.
  11. Observers are welcome and are expected to use the chat responsibly.
  12. No discussion of a hand is allowed during that hand.
  13. No soft playing should occur. No exceptions.
  14. Once one player has won all the chips, the online poker tournament will officially end.
  15. Un-registration. A player can un-register up to 10 minutes before the start of an online poker strategy tournament. Players who have won their seats through a satellite can not un-register.
  16. If action is not taken within the first 10 minutes of play in a fun money tournament, the player will be removed from the tournament.
  17. Tournament players must adhere to the rules outlined in our User Agreement
  18. UltimateBet.com reserves the right to disqualify any player who does not follow tournament guidelines or acts inappropriately during a tournament.
  19. UltimateBet.com reserves the right to change any tournament time, guaranteed prize pool, or event, without notice.
  20. UltimateBet.com reserves the right to alter the rules and make final decisions on all tournament related issues as they arise, and at our sole discretion.
  21. In case of disputes decisions made by UltimateBet.com are final.
