We have a new Champ!

This past weekend we crowned another champion of the UltimateBet Heads Up Smack Down Series. Event number 2 winner was The-Captainn. The-Captainn fought through an impressive group of talent to get to the final. His opponent in his last match was no slouch either. If you have ever played in any of the bigger events on UB or the satellites to get to them, then you know ALL GOLF.

For The-Captainn the match started out like a dream but quickly turned into a nightmare. The final match appeared like it would be an easy win.  ALL GOLF was down from the 2500 starting stack to 600 chips within 5 minutes and then the best possible situation occurred when he moved all in and The-Captainn had AA in the big blind.  ALL GOLF flipped over K6 and the race was on. ALL GOLF then flopped 2 pair crushing the aces. The-Captainn was devastated. As The-Captainn describes it “ALL GOLF then continued to go on a rush and began crippling me. Maybe 20-30 minutes later I found myself as the short stack and I was wondering how I went from having the match locked up to now being on the edge of losing with only 1300 chips.  Somehow I managed to make a comeback by playing consistently aggressive and I took the lead.  Then finally after a gruelling hour and 20 minutes of non stop aggression we ended up all in with A9 vs. A3 and my A9 held up”. This fight made the win even sweeter for The-Captainn.

In heads up action it usually is top pair that is good enough to win the hand. In this match there were land mines all over the place. The-Captain recalls 2 huge hands.  “One of the biggest hands early on I had a 56 off suit vs. ALL GOLF’s Q7 suited. The flop came 10 6 6 of diamonds. I flopped trips and GOLF flopped the flush draw.  GOLF then turned the flush and I ended up rivering the full house”. The tables were then turned when ALL GOLF also crippled The-Captainn with a Q rag vs. his 56 again.  The-Captainn flopped trip 6s and decided to slow play it, but unfortunately for him GOLF ended up catching running Queens to make queens full vs. his 6s full. You gotta love poker.

So what is this 20 year old heads up fenom going to do with the $11,000 first place prize? Well what every up and coming player wants to do, build a bankroll. The-Captainn is new to UltimateBet, but says he loves the tournaments here and will be sticking around for a while.
