Garrett "GfcukinBecks" Beckman, one of the heavyweights of online poker, is positioned to make a big push heading into Day 3 of the Main Event after qualifying in through Ultimate Bet.
After battling through sickness to get through Day 1 of the Main Event,Beckmanfelt way better on Day 2B.
Beckman’s change of mood wasn't necessarily because the remnants of what he suspected was food poisoning was gone, although that definitely helped, but that his stack went from 54k to start Day 2 to over 220k by the dinner break.
Beckman won a 160k pot earlier in the day when he opened for 2k and got re-raised to 7k. Beckman re-raised to 27k and his opponent called. First to act, Beckman checked a 10-10-7 flop and his opponent checked. Beckman checked when another 7 peeled on the turn and his opponent went all-in for 60k. Beckman called with queens and his opponents’ AK didn’t improve.
“It was pretty hard to check twice,” Beckman said.
Beckman's stack took a bit of a dip after the dinner break but ended the day with 150k, well over the average stack at the end of Day 2, which is estimated around 90k.
One other superstar of online poker who qualified through Ultimate Bet was Russell "rdcrsn" Carson.
Carson had a slightly above average stack throughout most of Day 2 but dwindled down after the dinner break.
Carson's stack took a big hit in a blind vs blind battle late in the day. In a limped pot, Carson and his opponent played for stacks on an {Ac}{4h}{5c} flop. Carson’s opponent flopped aces and fours and managed to dodge Carson’s gut-shot straight draw and flush draw with the {Tc}{3c}, scooping a 90k pot. The hand doubled Carson's opponent through and left Carson with 18k.
Carson went out in the last hour of play when he re-raised a 4k button raise for his last 18k out of the blinds with AK. Carson's opponent called holding pocket jacks. Carson's AK looked to be in good shape when the board read 10-Q-3-K but he was sent to the rail when a nine peeled on the river, completing a straight for his opponent.
