Your Name Sounds Familiar...

Wednesday was Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo Night at the UltimateBet Online Championship. During the World Series of Poker I covered the $5K Omaha Hi-Lo event and gained a new appreciation for the game, which can really drive you batty. I recall Annie Duke speaking at the WSOP Academy in Aruba a few months ago where she said that she's a much better No-Limit Hold-Em player than Omaha Hi-Lo, but that her edge in Hi-Lo is bigger because most people are terrible at split-pot games. It didn't take me long during those endless hours in the Amazon Room to learn about the horrors of being quartered, and that concentrating solely on the high hand is a good way to get yourself scooped.

You would therefore expect that some of your more skilled players would go deep in this event, and that's what happened. For a time Annie Duke was our chip leader, and found herself sitting directly to the left of Annette "Annette_15" Obrestad, who you might have heard of. Actually, judging from the number of railbirds at that table, I think everyone has heard of her.

Annie was eliminated in 27th place, but Annette made it all the way to the final table, along with a few other names that rang the proverbial bell. It'd be hard to forget a player named Nath "Tony Pisser" Pizzolatto, even if he hadn't already notched a 6th-place finish in Event #4 and, oh by the way, hadn't won our $200,000 Sunday Guaranteed Tournament back on May 13th. Mr., uh, Mr. P ended up finishing in 8th place.

Speaking of winning the Sunday Guaranteed...didn't "urbandb888" win that back on November 4th? Why, so he did! He also made last night's final table and ended up in the 9th spot. Annette_15 finished in 7th place, and Mark "The Omaholic" Roland indulged in his vice until he was eliminated in the six spot.

Tim "tmay_420" West is one of the most successful online poker players around and he nearly added a UBOC title to his extensive resume, but he was defeated in heads-up play by Joel "fooge" Fuji, who won the event and took down the biggest payday of his career so far, a tidy $19,700.

Tonight at the UBOC we return to the relative sanity of No-Limit Hold-Em, as Event #9 offers players a $150,000 guaranteed prize pool. We begin at 8pm EDT, with nary a split pot in sight.
