You Call THAT A World Record?

The BBC is reporting that a new world record has been set for the longest uninterrupted poker game. The game was played at the Basement Jacks club in London. The new record is 43 hours and 30 minutes, which beat the previous mark (as judged by the folks at Guinness World Records) by an hour and a half.
Now, am I the only person that thinks that this ain't no record? Even a cursory review of poker literature will unearth tales of games that went on sixty, seventy, even a hundred hours straight. And there are probably folks out there who are saying, "A hundred hours? Big flippin' deal. I've played for a hundred hours straight just trying to get unstuck from one bad beat."
According to the piece the record will be verified by "arbiters at Guinness World Records". Who exactly decided that the folks at Guinness should get the final say about what is or isn't a record? And the article also said that the players in the game agreed ahead of time that half the money would go to charity, and the other half to the players. So...why not just donate half the money to charity right off the bat and try to set another record. Like, oh, making the world's biggest pancake. That's a worthy record to hold.
Because trying to set a record just to set a record is, well, pretty weak. Especially a record that is almost certainly not a real record. And you just know that there are groups of hardy souls from America and Sweden and Vietnam and elsewhere around this great big world who will soon set out to shatter this record. Anyone want to bet that by this time next year the record will be over 100 hours?
