If you don't like hearing about who won poker tournaments that'll be on TV later this year, then close your eyes and skip the rest of this post. Go email your mother or something silly like that.
OK, for those of you still with me, the final table of the Bay 101 Shooting Star event concluded last night, with Ted Forrest finally winning his first WPT title. But to do so he had to defeat J.J. Liu heads-up after the longest final table in World Poker Tour history, a 9-hour, 262-hand marathon. J.J. came desperately close to becoming the first woman to win a WPT title--all while struggling with illness during much of the final table. Liu is four months pregnant and on at least one occasion play was halted to give her a few moments respite from the hot lights. And then right after the final hand she was taken to the hospital.
It was a remarkable performance, her second WPT final table, and it came on the heels of J.J.'s 13th-place finish in the UltimateBet Aruba Poker Classic. Her battle to the end with Ted Forrest will doubtless make for compelling viewing when the show airs later this year.
