What's In A Name?

They say you can't pick up tells playing poker online, but there are subtle little cues that sometimes provide information. How quickly someone bets, how much they bet...and even what online name they picked for themselves. Though you have to be careful. A player who gives himself the sobriquet "FluffyBunny" might indeed be your typical weak-tight milquetoast...or he may be a wolf in fluffybunny's clothing.

One player who made the final three in last night's $200,000 Guaranteed Tournament had just such a nickname. You would expect a player named Laptopsmasher to be a wee bit aggressive, and that's exactly how he played as the tournament reached it's conclusion. Down to three-handed Laptopsmasher was in third chip position, but only by a bit. And he quickly reversed the situation by seizing the initiative and building up a huge chip lead over BKiCe and rppkoz.

And Laptopsmasher demonstrated his dominance by eliminating his remaining opposition with dominating hands. He called an all-in re-raise by BKiCe with A-10 and found himself up against A-3. A ten on the flop killed the drama and BKiCe was eliminated in 3rd place.

Now holding a $1.7 million to $380,000 lead Laptopsmasher wouldn't let rppkoz win that huge pot that would reverse their positions. On the final hand Laptopsmasher made a sizable re-raise preflop and rppkoz came over the top for all his chips, holding A-10. But Laptopsmasher held A-K, and one wonders if rppkoz felt a momentary thrill when he saw the Ace and the Ten on the flop...only to realize that there was also a damnable King between them. He didn't get any help on the turn or river and rppkoz was our runner-up, winning $27,000.

And for this night at least Laptopsmasher's computer didn't have to endure getting thrown against the wall or off the balcony, unless that's how he celebrates winning poker tournaments and $45,000 in prize money.

The rest of our final table consisted of these fine players, and the just rewards they earned:

3rd:                BKiCe                         $18,500
4th:                clcktower                   $13,000

7th:                siphon3511                 $7,000
8th:                G0 F1SH                     $5,000
9th:                donnysack1                 $3,500
10th:              Adam004                    $2,000
