Wasn't Meant To Be

The final table of the World Poker Tour World Championship will play out this evening, but neither Phil Hellmuth nor Jim "KrazyKanuck" Worth will be sitting in front of the TV cameras. Both were eliminated just short of the final table on Day 5.
Jim took his stand with pocket eights, only to find himself dominated by Tim Phan's pocket tens. The board never gave KK any hope beyond hitting a lucky eight, and when that didn't happen he went out in 16th place.
Phil went out two spots earlier, when he and Thomas Wahlroos tangled after a flop of 8c-6s-2h. Wahlroos bet, Phil moved all-in, and Wahlroos called. Phil turned over JJ but Wahlroos held pocket Aces, and that was the end of Phil's quest to be the first player to win the World Series Main Event and the WPT World Championship.
Both Phil and Jim won $123,760 for their work over the last five days, and chances are that neither would've been happy with anything except the the nearly $4 million first prize. And if you'd like to hear Phil's own take on his final day of play, click here.
