As always, UltimateBet hosts our World Series of Poker satellite at 9:30pm ET tonight. The WSOP starts on June 1st and the time is gonna fly leading up to the opening event. On Wednesday WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack took part in a conference call with 30 members of the media (which you can listen to in it's entirety) and some interesting tidbits were revealed:
- Harrah's is preparing for 10,000 players for this year's Main Event. Now, Pollack stressed they aren't EXPECTING 10,000 players--but they'll be PREPARED for that many. He wasn't making a prediction.
- Harrah's is also building a structure next to the Amazon room at the Rio to hold additional tables.
- 300 dealers are going through training and will be certified to deal every game in the World Series.
- And these dealers will be pitching Kem cards this year, after there were so many complaints about the quality of cards during last year's World Series.
- Harrah's is also doubling the number of starting chips for the low buy-in events. So instead of getting $1,500 in chips for a $1,500 buy-in event, you'll get $3,000. Which of course gives everyone a lot more play. And there will be brand-new chips introduced this year.
- The side games will be kept more separate from the tournament tables, and there will be a separate cage for cash games and tournaments, hopefully preventing big logjams at the cages.
