To Live and Die in L.A.

Play has begun on Day Five of the L.A. Poker Classic and UltimateBet's Phil Hellmuth starts today in 3rd place with nearly 1.4 million in chips. The 18 survivors will play down to the six-person final table, and it will doubtless be a long, difficult day as no one wants to make a mistep in their quest for a WPT title.
Phil drew a terrible table assignment--not only is he seated with chipleader Phil Ivey, but four out of the five players with more than a million chips are at their table. Oh well, you can't build up that monster stack if all the chips are elsewhere.
Phil (Hellmuth) got off to a good start, eliminating the very tough David Singer when Singer moved in with A-Q and Phil woke up with Aces. I'm sure Steve Lipscomb is dreaming of a final table featuring the two Phils and Jennifer Tilly, but there are some top-flight players still in the field (including WPT title-holder Nam Le). Mr. Hellmuth still has a long way to go before he can start thinking about claiming his first WPT title.
