The Hunter...and the Hunted

Very early this morning (like 5am-ish) Phil Hellmuth made his record-setting 40th World Series of Poker final table in the $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha w/rebuys event. Phil is chasing his 12th bracelet, which would extend the record he set last year when he won bracelet #11.

But.

Phil comes into today's final table as the shortstack, with just 119,000 in chips. And let's just say that the roster of that table is completely stacked. To wit:

Seat 1: John Juanda (Las Vegas, Nevada) -- 694,800
Seat 2: Phil Hellmuth (Palo Alto, California) -- 119,000
Seat 3: David Benyamine (Las Vegas, Nevada) -- 1,041,000
Seat 4: Kirill Gerasimov (Moscow, Russia) -- 558,000
Seat 5: Phil Galfond (Madison, Wisconsin) -- 1,393,000
Seat 6: Daniel Negreanu (Las Vegas, Nevada) -- 460,000
Seat 7: Brian Rast (Las Vegas, Nevada) -- 1,176,000
Seat 8: Adam Hourani (East Lansing, Michigan) -- 300,000
Seat 9: Johnny Chan (Las Vegas, Nevada) -- 624,000

Did you notice the name of the player in Seat 9? Johnny (deleted) Chan? Chan has 10 bracelets and should he win today he'd tie Phil for the top spot. Phil could make history today, or have to make room atop his pedastal. Or their thunder could be stolen by one of the other superstars trying to add to their own jewelry collection. Play resumes at 3pm and ESPN will be filming it for broadcast, but you can follow along with the live updates and see if Phil can find a way to capture bracelet #12.
