The End Comes Quietly

The problem with making a grand entrance like poker Phil Hellmuth enjoyed today is that everything after is anticlimax. Short of winning his second World Championship (and 12th bracelet overall), what could hope to top it?
We won't have the chance to find out, not this year at least. After struggling with a shortstack most of the afternoon, about 30 minutes before the dinner break WSOP Media Director made the following announcement to the room: "Ladies and Gentlemen, a round of applause for Phil Hellmuth, who has just been eliminated from today's event."
He recieved a loud ovation, though to be sure quite a few people were clapping BECAUSE Phil had been knocked out. He moved in with A-Q against 2 players, one who held Tens and the other Jacks. Phil spiked a Queen on the turn to take the lead, but that card opened up a flush draw for one of his opponents and the six of clubs on the river brought an end to Phil's World Series.
The cameras followed him out of the Amazon Room, but by the time I arrived the halls were quiet. Phil was gone, but the Main Event continues inside the Amazon Room. Still, when Phil Hellmuth was eliminated, so was some of the spectacle that makes up the World Series of Poker.
