So That Explains It...

I take it that a fair few of you watched the Super Bowl last night instead of playing in the $200,000 Sunday Guaranteed Tournament. And since it was one of the best Super Bowls of all time and one of the greatest upsets in sports history, I guess it wasn't a complete waste of your time.

Just don't go telling me next week that you didn't play because you were watching the Pro Bowl, the most idiotic all-star game there is. Next Sunday I expect to see at least 1,000 of you fighting like Michael Strahan and Justin Tuck for the title. As it should be.

Not that last night's event was lacking in excitement. Team UB's Jim "KrazyKanuck" Worth was the early, early chipleader, but TomPhoolery knocked him out in 57th place and collected KK's $200+15 bounty. TomPhoolery freerolled his way to the final table, but went out in 10th place for a $2,000 payday.

AawwNuts was no doubt saying just that as he was being eliminated in 9th place, and then we see a familiar name on the leaderboard. If you've been to Aruba you've no doubt seen and/or played with SassyTexan, and last night Lynn reached the final table before going out in 8th place, winning a cool five-grand for a good night's work. Hmm, that just about covers the buy-in for the 2008 Aruba Poker Classic...

Winning $7K for his 7th-place finish was bma1205, and A__Webb won $9,000 when he went out in sixth. A five-figure cash is nothing to sneeze at, and I'd wager that neither thedude130j nor carmilla were sneezing after the each posted their biggest-ever tournament cashes. Our heads-up battle was set when Jason "mkind0516" Laso, making his second $200,000 Sunday Guaranteed final table in 3 months, was knocked out in 3rd-place for a $28,500 payday.

The last two standing were sean4040 and Priit, and sean4040 seized a massive chiplead before the decisive hand. After a raise Priit committed his last handful of chips with Qh7h, and sean4040 called with KcJd. The board helped neither player and that was good enough to give sean4040 the title and the $46,000 first prize. Not as exciting an ending as Eli Manning's majestic touchdown drive, perhaps, but a transcendent moment like that comes maybe once a decade. Meanwhile, we'll be hosting the $200,000 Sunday Guaranteed Tournament once again next Sunday. And we'll see you there. Because you promised.
