Phil Hellmuth is now the huge chipleader at the L.A. Poker Classic, with a bit more than 2.9 million chips. They're down to 10-handed play and the current shortstack is Scott Montgomery of Ottawa, Canada. I must admit that name wasn't familiar to me, but I just learned that Scott's online handle is r_a_y, and that name IS familar to me. Because Scott won his seat to the L.A. Poker Classic here at UltimateBet and also won Round 6 of the Ultimate Heads-Up Smackdown.

Scott was chipleader at one point but lost a 2.2 million race to Charles Moore. Scott had pocket Nines, Moore A-K, and a heartbreaking King fell on the river to decimate Montgomery's stack. Maybe the luck will swing far enough his way to get him to a WPT Final Table.
