Of course you already know that UltimateBet has asked Annie Duke to revamp our tournament schedule. The changes went into effect today and here's a brief list of what new events are on offer at UB:
  • New Sniper tournaments with massive guarantees
  • $1.2 million in weekly guarantees
  • Nightly DeepStack tournaments featuring longer blind levels where players start with 5,000 chips for tourneys with buy-ins of $100+9 and above, and 3,000 starting chips for tourneys with buy-ins under $100+9
  • New Short, Super Short, and Mega Short Stack satellites allow online poker fans to qualify so many new ways, all the way up to one half hour before an event
  • Lots of ways for players to qualify for their WSOP* seat - including a 3-seat guaranteed tournament on Sunday and a 25-seat and 50-seat guaranteed event
  • New $1 Turbo Rebuy $5,000 guaranteed tournament where poker fans can win their seat for as little as 6 cents
  • New Sit and Go satellites for all major events on the site
  • $200,000 guaranteed tournament every Sunday
Now, yesterday I wrote in passing about how the Internet has revolutionized how people gather and exchage information. One way that communication has changed thanks to the 'Net is that it's no longer a one-way street--instead of passively receiving information, consumers now feel free to talk back, engage in conversation, make their views known.

A perfect example of this is now taking place at the PocketFives poker forum. A player named "mathclub" started a thread titled "The New UB Tourney Schedule", wherein he listed the new events and wrote up a rather pointed critique. There were aspects he liked, aspects he didn't, and after making his post a number of other folks also chimed in with their opinions. This is the sort of thing that happens on forums (especially poker forums) every day.

What doesn't happen every day is that the person in charge of the topic under discussion jumping into the thread with both feet. Annie Duke posted a reply to the suggestions and complaints raised in the thread, acknowledging some problems and countering some inaccurate statements, and that quickly steered the conversation in a more constructive direction. Other posters quickly chimed in with suggestions and observations (couched in a more polite and politic tone than before), and already this conversation has borne fruit--Annie announced in the threat that there will now be a $10+1 Omaha 8/b tournament held nightly at 7:20pm. Obviously the calls in the thread for more non-NL Hold-Em appealed to a split-pot, mixed-game player like Annie.

So our new tournament schedule isn't etched in stone--as if that was ever the case. We're listening to our players, finding out what they want, what they don't want, and quickly incorporating the most useful suggestions. If you have some ideas of your own--reasonable and well-thought-out ideas supported with intelligent analysis--post them in the thread. As Annie herself wrote, "Thank you for the well thought out and reasonable suggestions. More of this is what I need."
