If you needed any additional evidence of how deeply poker is woven into our society, look no further than Redmond, Washington, the home of Microsoft. This past Monday Microsoft launched it's long, long, LONG-awaited new operating system, called Windows Vista. Vista will soon be running millions of computers all over the world.

Chances are that you know that previous editions of Windows have come bundled with a few simple games. Oh, the untold hours office workers have wasted playing Minesweeper and Solitare...the destruction of workplace productivity must run into the hundreds of billions of dollars.

And now Microsoft is delivering another savage blow to the capitalist world. Because the premium version of the new operating system (the stylishly-named Vista Ultimate) comes with a version of Texas Hold-Em installed. If you're so moved here's a brief review and a screenshot of the new game.

Thanks to Microsoft poker will be on every (OK, Mac mavens, almost every) computer in the world. Hundreds of millions play the game socially. Poker gets huge ratings on TV and tournament fields have increased exponentially. And yet, the world keeps on turning...
