Once Again, The Phil Hellmuth Show

As you know, Phil Hellmuth made a grand entrance to the World Series of Poker Main Event this past July. Though not so grand as he'd hoped--he was supposed to drive up in a stock car decked out with a sweet UltimateBet paint scheme. But as Phil was driving around the Rio parking the day before he was due to play there was some...unpleasantness:

But a little thing like smashing a race car into a concrete pillar wasn't enough to make Phil cancel his big plans. He drove up to the Rio in a limousine, emerged wearing a custom-made leather racing suit, and walked to the Amazon Room while escorted by 11 beautiful woman--one for each bracelet he's won over the years.

But the bad luck Phil ran into the day before (literally) continued after he sat down to play. He never got anything going in the Main Event and was eliminated just three hours after he arrived. And so you might think that after everything that happened Phil might tone things down a bit for the Main Event of the World Series of Poker...Europe. You, my friend, are a bloody fool.
Reading a report from my Pauly, who is covering the WSOP-E, Phil's arrival was, again, on the spectacular side. He drove around London in a double-decker bus plastered with a big photo of him flashing the #11 for the camera. He was again accompained by 11 lovely ladies, each of them dressed as a bobbie. I would very much like to have seen that.
And it looks like taking his show on the road has changed Phil's luck as well. Instead of going bust early on, he currently has the third-largest stack in the Main Event after the end of Day 1A. Annie Duke also played on the first day and she doubled her stack to 44,200 when play concluded. The second flight is currently underway and we'll keep track of Phil and Annie's progress as they, uh, progress in the Main Event.
UPDATE: I said that I would very much have liked to see Phil Hellmuth and his bevy of bonnie bobbies...well, here they are:

The Sun had an article today about Phil and about his quest to win his first bracelet in Europe. There's a quote from Phil I found interesting:
"Whenever there's a big game, I'm surrounded by cameras and beautiful women � I have to try hard to focus and not get distracted."
Of course, Phil could somewhat allieviate that problem if he didn't keep showing up for events with a gaggle of pretty ladies in tow. But then I thought things over a bit, and decided that, if given the choice, I would rather travel WITH a gang of beautiful woman than WITHOUT one. If given the choice. Which, so far in my dreary, drab life, I haven't been given. So I guess I see the method to the madness.
