We're well into the WSOP schedule now and just as some players show up fashionably late at a tournament (see Hellmuth, Phil) some players wait a bit before jumping into the World Series madness. The World Series coincides with the end of the school year, other plans might overlap with the start, and some savvy players figure that waiting a week or so might mean they're fresh and raring to go when other players have already exhausted themselves playing every day in the WSOP pressure cooker.
Annie Duke is one of those players who delayed her arrival for a bit before sitting down i her first tournament, the $10,000 Seven-Card Stud World Championship. Annie made it to Day 2 before being eliminated by David Oppenheim when her Ace-high flush was beaten by Oppenheim's slightly-higher Ace-high flush. And that's another good reason to show up late at the World Series--you miss out on that many bad beat stories.
