Highroller48 Strikes Again

When I covered the Aruba Poker Classic last September I'd hang out in the ballroom much of the time, writing up little posts about the satellites and smaller tournaments that led up to the Main Event. One night I decided to cover one of the $1000 buy-in events right up to the end. Figured I'd sharpen my tournament-reporting chops. If I recall correctly, that was the same night my co-blogger John Vorhaus went to the big party Phil Hellmuth threw in his penthouse suite. John said that Phil bought every bottle of Dom Perignon on the island. Fortunately, I don't even know what the word "envy" means.
I arrived at the ballroom around 9PM with camera and notebook in hand. Had I known the poker tournament wouldn't end until 3AM I might've had a few more Balashis before heading back. But I sat there and watched as the tables slowly consolidated, and to occupy myself I tried to predict who would win.
One candidate immediately leapt to mind--professional player Dan Alspach, who ended up taking 3rd place. But the player I picked was a preternaturally calm young guy who looked like his pulse rate never rose about 50. And, for a change, my hunch was spot on. He ended up winning the poker tournament, and I asked if I could take a quick picture. His name, he said, was Billy Hill...but he was better known as "highroller48".

I quickly learned that the previous year highroller48 had won the UltimateBet.net World Poker Championship and a cool $200,000. And last night he posted another big win at UltimateBet, taking first place in last night's $200,000 Guaranteed Tournament. He arrived at the final table as the chip leader and slowly built up his stack as the field was winnowed down. He eliminated the final three players, and the final hand saw him taking AK against the AJ held by aakkjj. He collected $45,000 for yet another big win at UB.
