Gotta Win The Races

Last week's $200,000 Guaranteed Tournament saw the final few fighting it out with approximately equal stacks. But, in the end, one player finds a way to gather all the chips, so even if you have a monster stack at the final table, that doesn't mean you'll end up the victor.

As the 973 players who started last night's event was reduced to ten, one familar name was still alive--Team UltimateBet member Devin "TranquilChaos" Porter. But Devin's stay was a brief one, as he made a move with pocket nines only to run into kinglouie's pocket Queens. And as other players fell lamp3122 built up a huge stack, holding more than half the chips in play. But once again the chips seemed to share out among the players, and after GfcukinBecks sent kinglouie out in 4th place with KK vs. AQ he seized the chip lead.

There followed one of those hands can leave a strong person curled up in the fetal position for a week. After calling a raise by lamp3122, Fajzher saw a flop of Ad-Ah-Qs. That was a good flop for Fajzher, as he held As-2s. Both players checked on the flop, and after the five of diamonds hit on the turn Fajzher tossed out a small bet, which lamp3122 called. The nine of diamonds hit on the river, Fajzher bet out and was raised all-in. It's not hard to imagine the "ooogh" feeling Fajzher must've felt as he called, and not hard to imagine the outburst that followed when Lamp3122 turned over Kd-Qd for the runner-runner flush.

That hand gave lamp3122 the lead, and after surrendering a few chips Lamp3122 decided to make an all-in move after GfcukinBecks raised. GfcukinBecks called and showed pocket jacks, and lamp3122 turned over A-K. All that was missing was Mike Sexton announcing this as a "classic race situation", and this time the pair held up. This hand gave GfcukinBecks a massive chip lead, and the very next hand his Q-7 held up against 10-4 to give him the win and the $45,000 first prize. Lamp3122 took home $26,500 as our runner-up.
