Edging Closer To Home

It seems like this happens with every election these days, but after West Virginia held a referendum this past weekend about whether to allow table games at their racetrack casinos it looks like they're headed for a recount. The pro-gaming side is in the lead...for now. They held a miniscule 33-vote lead after the initial tally was taken, but of course there are uncounted votes turning up all over the place and both sides are accusing each other of fraud, hypocrasy, and attempting to usurp the will of the people. Makes you proud to be an American. And makes you wonder how hard the Canadian citizenship quiz is.

Should the West Virginia referendum pass it would give poker a foothold in my neck of the woods, which would understandably make me a happy boy. Atlantic City isn't exactly next door, nor is Caesar's Indiana. The idea of legal casino poker being an hour's drive away makes me almost giddy. Which is why I feel fairly confident that this recount will somehow go against the pro-gaming folks like me. But let's hold off on the bad beat stories until the final card is turned.
