Earning Your Black Belt

As I wrote in the previous post, there are numerous ways these days to improve your poker play. You can read a book, watch a DVD, or cavort with Playboy Playmates. Sorry, that last one is a blatant lie--there will be no cavorting at the Playboy Poker Camp. That's going to be four days of endless mental struggle. Especially the party at the Playboy Mansion. Grueling.

But for the tech-savvy there are additional ways to implant poker knowledge into your head. Ten-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth has of course already published  Play Poker Like the Pros and a series of instructional DVDs, and now he's offering a downloadable, eight-part series titled Phil Hellmuth's Black Belt Poker. The series is set up like the progression a karate student makes toward earning a black belt, with different colored belts showing the level of mastery the student has attained.

You can download the videos into your iPod and review them at your leisure. Like 5 minutes after you've been knocked out of your most recent poker tournament. There are free sample clips you can peruse, and if you download the entire course you'll be able to talk to Phil directly during a live telephone coaching call. Though there's no need to refer to Phil as "sensei" during the talk.
