Why do we play poker? To win money, sure, but for many people that isn't the reason they love to sit down at the table. They like to gamble, or the social interaction, or they just enjoy matching wits with other people. This is a question that's been at the back of my mind since I started writing about poker, and I don't think I've read a better explanation than the one given by poker player and columnist Victoria Coren, who was quoted in an article that recently appeared in The Economist about our favorite game. Poker, Ms. Coren says, is:

"a stimulating psychological challenge, combining guts and detective work...a world of its own, offering all the childish appeal of secret places, special languages and staying up late at night."

Very well said, indeed. And a few fortunate souls will be staying up late tonight, as they play into the wee hours in our $200,000 Sunday Guaranteed Tournament. Knock out one of our Team UB pros and you'll get your buy-in back. Though pulling that off will require some probing psychological analysis, a lion's share of courage, and some pavement-pounding detective work. Or a sick suckout on the river. Whichever you prefer.
