Aruba Spared Felix's Wrath

September is hurricane season, but Aruba is rarely troubled by the big cylonic storms that churn through the Atlantic and Caribbean. It's far enough south that most tropical storms pass by without giving the island paradise much of a problem. Not so for Hurricane Felix, a Category 5 monster that is crashing into Nicaragua even as we speak. Felix gave the ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao) a healthy slap as it grew from Category 2 to it's current, devastating strength.

But from what I've read Aruba was spared any major damage. Some flooding in Orenjastad, some trees toppled in the wind, and there were scattered power outages. But nothing that might disturb the Aruba Poker Classic that starts on September 29th. Now we just need to hope that somehow Felix somehow finds a way to spare the people of Nicaragua and Honduras the kind of catastrophic destruction many meterologists fear could occur.
