Another Day, Another Cash

Phil Hellmuth is starting to put some distance between himself and the field when it comes to World Series of Poker cashes. He made the money for the 62nd time in the $5,000 6-handed No-Limit event, finishing in 31st place. He lost a tough hand right before he was eliminated when he flopped a pair, made trips on the turn, and lost when his opponent hit his runner-runner flush on the river. A few hands later he moved in with pocket Tens, was called by A-8, and saw his day come to an end when the other player turned an Ace.

That untimely exit should leave Phil free to play in today's $1,500 No-Limit event, which will have the biggest field of the World Series so far. Over 3,000 players will cram the Amazon Room--and the Player Pavilion tent, and the Rio poker room, and the hallways outside, as over 500 alternates will have to wait for seats to open up before they begin play. Phil won his bracelet this year after fighting through a massive $1,500 field, and you'd have to think that sitting down with all those hometown heroes would be to his liking.

UPDATE: I said it SHOULD leave Phil free to play in today's event. That didn't mean that he WOULD play. Unless his plan was to arrive very, very, very late. Because we've reached the dinner hour, and there's no Phil. So, never mind.
