An Extraordinary Night

I mentioned in my previous post that Greg "Wild Duck" Hobson was the chip leader with about 60 players left in UBOC Event #4, the $200,000 Guaranteed No-Limit event. Well, holy crap, Hobson went and won the tournament and the $55,709.10 first prize. He accomplished this after last night winning UBOC Event #2 (the No-Limit Hold-Em with rebuys), which was good for $29,050.

That's two UBOC titles in less than 24 hours. That's sick. Wait, no that isn't--THIS is sick. Because as he was taking down Event #4, Hobson was also playing in Event #5, the $150,000 Guaranteed No-Limit Event. And Hobson made ANOTHER final table, finishing in 5th place. In the space of about 30 hours Greg Hobson won two massive online poker tournaments and finished fifth in another. Fighting his way through fields loaded with some of the best online players in the world.

Including Eric "Rizen" Lynch, one of the best-known online poker players on the planet and who snapped Hobson's streak by winning Event #5.  Lynch won $57,875 for his win, while Greg added an additional $13,890 to the pile he's accumulated the last day and change.

There are those who say that online tournaments are a crapshoot, that luck trumps skill, that all that counts is who gets hot at just the right time. Well, Greg Hobson is either a very good poker player on an historic tear, or he has a gang of leprauchauns chained to a wall in his basement who are doing his bidding. Which seems more plausible?
