All Over But The Counting

The counting of a $181,575 first prize, that is. It took more than ten-and-a-half hours to determine the winner of the 2nd UltimateBet Online Championship Main Event, though that was inflated by some late-stage stalling by some poker players as we approached the final table. But once that final table was set the players weren't afraid to get their chips in the middle

The big mover during the final table was neverlovedu, who hopefully overcame the melancholy inherent in his name by getting action with some huge hands. He doubled up or knocked players out with Aces against Kings, Kings against A-Q, and Kings against A-10. Our shortstack became the chip leader as the field was quickly winnowed down.

After Issac "bossmenlo" Baron was knocked out in 3rd place it was down to neverlovedu and psmoney, who each had around $2 million in chips and, one would think, enough ammunition to dig in for the poker equivalent of trench warfare. But it was late, very late, and they'd been battling for nearly half a day. After psmoney moved out to a moderate chip lead the pair traded escalating raises until all the money went into the pot. When the cards were flipped over we learned that psmoney's A-J had neverlovedu's K-J suited dominated, and here's how the board ran out:

Just like that, the UltimateBet Online Championship's Main Event was over, with psmoney taking the title and $181,575. One hopes that the $108,545 he won as our runner-up will in some way console neverlovedu, if not today, then sometime soon. Here's how the entire final table was paid for their hard day's work:
