A Long, Hard Slog

Both Phil Hellmuth and Jim "KrazyKanuck" Worth are among the final 27 players at the World Poker Tour's World Championship, but neither had an easy day of it. Phil came into play today as the chip leader, but he now sits in 18th place with $738,000. Reading through PokerNews.com's coverage, Phil had a frustrating day, doubling up several players as he shed $1 million over the course of the day. In one big hand Sorel Mizzi flopped a set of nines while Phil made trip aces on the turn. Mizzi's boat won him a huge pot and made a major dent in Hellmuth's stack. Phil also lost a big pot to David Levi when his A-J was outkicked by Levi's A-K.

But Phil's still alive, and so is KrazyKanuck. Starting the day with just $230,000, Jim went on a tear and built his stack up to $1.2 million, only to fall back during the day. He's currently in 22nd place with $556,000, still in position to make his move at the final table. And that's what the 27 remaining players will do tomorrow, fight to be among the six who will appear on the World Poker Tour's final show of the season.
