Final Table Thoughts

Learning how to adjust your final table play can be one of the hardest things to do for a poker player.  If you think about it, the only time you will gain any practice at it is by making it to a final table.  As you all know, this doesnt happen every day.  Hopefully I can give a few tips that might help you once you get there.

Once you reach a final table the pay jumps move up more than they ever will in a tournament.  I find once you get down to around 6 players, it seems that each hand is played like you are on the money bubble.  There is so much more money to be made in moving up that most players will tighten up and fold for better cash.  If I have a big enough stack I like to take advantage of this and be aggressive.  A great way to learn how and when to be aggressive is play SNG's (sit and go's) and learn the value of hands as each player gets knocked out.  A SNG is similar to a final table in that once a player is eliminated that's it, and so on until there is one winner.  Also in a SNG, the top 3 spots pay, and in a MTT (multi-table tournament), the real money is in the top 3 spots.  It's very helpful to learn how to play hands with different amounts of players at the table.

Just remember if you are at a final table, you have just probably played at least 5 hours to get there.  It is very important to maximize your profit and not make mistakes once you are there.  Learning values of hands as players decrease will help you make less mistakes.
