DEBO'S Top 10 UB Moments of 2007
10. Phil Hellmuth makes his grand entrance at the WSOP.
A day after crashing the UB racecar in the RIO parking lot, Phil regains his composure, and enters with an entourage of 11 gorgeous women to take his seat at the main event wearing a UB racing suit.
9. The_dean221 calls his shot, then delivers.
A few days after meeting him while filming the Best Damn Poker Show, Grayson Nichols, (the_dean221 on UB) tells a group of people at the show, he will win at least 1 UBOC event. A few days later, he almost wins 2 in the same day. He wins and event, then takes fifth in a different event a few hours later. This kid can play.
8. UB Packer weekend.
A group consisting of 10 UB players met in Madison, WI for a weekend which ended with a Packers/ Vikings game. This trip was a highlight of my year. It's amazing how UB and poker have given me the chance to make so many good friends, and enjoy moments like this.
7. Best Damn Poker Show.
I was lucky enough to get invited for the filming of this show. It was part poker, part reality TV. I met a lot of great people out in California during this, and had a great week.
6. Phil can throw a party.
Not only can Phil Hellmuth play poker, but this guy throws a mean party as well. Anybody who attended either his Aruba, or Christmas party in Vegas will agree. Great food and fun, and of course the live music provided by Scott and Pearl.
5. Aruba Poker Classic.
This is always my favorite trip of the year. This was my fifth year in Aruba, and by far the best. I extended my trip a few days and stayed a total of 14 nights. Everything from a poker and events standpoint was flawless. The parties and nightlife were fantastic as usual. I'm already looking forward to next year.
4. Annie and Annette.
This was a great story to follow. Annie Duke, and Annette Obrestad battle it out at the European WSOP, possibly setting up a future rivalry for us all to follow. Annette wins the European WSOP at the age of 19...are you kidding me? I can't wait until these 2 great players meet again.
3. Travis Rice wins Aruba Poker Classic.
Travis beat out a field of 500+ players and a very tough final table to win the 2007 APC. There were a lot of great stories at this table. Brad (the black hat) Smithson, playing in his first big event takes third. Jordan Rich, and Jason Gray, close friends from Oregon finishing 6th and 5th. Congrats Travis.
2. Wild Duck and UBOC2.
Greg "Wild Duck" Hobson puts on a clinic in UBOC2. What he was able to do during a week's time was just plain nasty. After the dust settled Greg walked away with 4 final tables which included 2 wins and 2 fifth place finishes. He ran away with the UBOC leader board, and for kicks won the nightly $120 bounty tournament the same week as well. A few days later a player at my table asked , " Debo, what do u think of Wild Duck"? I replied, I think I want to play as good as he does. Congrats to a great run by a great player.
1. Phil wins his 11th WSOP bracelet.
Phil makes poker history yet again, with his 11th bracelet. In my opinion this is the greatest accomplishment in poker history. Need I say more?
