Roothlus Going For WPT Glory

It's not news to those who were in Aruba, but last week UltimateBet officially signed Adam "Roothlus" Levy to our Star Player team. If you've been watching ESPN's World Series of Poker coverage you got to see Phil Hellmuth going off after Adam won a big pot they contested holding Q-10. Adam took no heed of the Hellmuthian tirade and went on to finish 48th in the Main Event, one of six cashes he had during the Main Event (to go with a long, long, long list of online successes.

And right now Roothlus is playing for the biggest score of his career--he's at the final table of the WPT's Festa al Lago Classic. And what a final table it is--it includes such superstars as Nenad Medic, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier and Nam Le. Adam came in as the shortstack and probably needed to double up the first hand he plays, but he's made the TV table, he's guaranteed at least $186,510, and there's the possiblity of so much more. We'll keep tabs on Roothlus' progress as the night goes on.



And even as I write this William Mietz was eliminated in 6th place by ElkY. Did I ever tell you the story of how I once beat ElkY in a pot during a tournament? You must remind me to tell you sometime, it's a fascinating story. Anyway, Mietz's elimination means that Adam is now guaranteed at least $266,445. And I'd be willing to be he's not thinking about that figure at all.

UPDATE: Sadly, Adam was just eliminated in fifth place. He moved in after Bertrand Grospellier raised and ElkY called with pocket Queens to Adam's Ac9h. The flop didn't bring an Ace and when the turn was a Queen, Adam was drawing dead. Looks like tonight's final table is going to be the Bertrand Grospellier show, as he now has around 10 million in chips and an overwhelming chip lead. Still, a very strong showing for Roothlus in one of the toughest fields of the year.
